MALDIVE STUDENTS AMONG IGCSE CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL EXAMS TOP TEN

Students from the Maldives have ranked among the World Top Ten Achievers for this years International General Certificate of Secondary Education of the University of Cambridge.

Dr Newman Burdett, CIE's Head of International Education and Ministry Partnerships, will present the prizes to students who achieved high marks in the November 2006 exam session.

Dr Burdett said: "Students in the Maldives achieved very impressive results this year. To have so many students in the Top 10 in the world is an incredible achievement. One student came Top in the World in Biology, a subject in which nearly 10,000 candidates from around the world entered.

"We must remember though that all students' results are important and whilst we are celebrating students who achieved particularly well we are also celebrating the hard work and commitment of all students in the Maldives and their teachers."

The Government of Maldives has granted them scholarship and awards in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

The IGCSE is currently taken in 124 countries including the UK, a number that has risen every year since Cambridge introduced the IGCSE. The CIE Centres most distant from Cambridge, UK: East – Tonga; West – Mexico;North – Norway; and South – Chile

Prizes are regularly awarded to outstanding students in a large number of countries, often in conjunction with a partner such as the British Council.

The International Fellowship Centre Award is an accolade CIE awards to Centres that have shown outstanding support for high-quality Cambridge education and that have consistently
impressive candidate performance.

Holographic metal strips and multi-tonal watermarks are just two of several security features used to prevent forgery of the highly valued IGCSE certificates.

MALDIVES WIN ULTRA TRAVELS AWARD

Maldives has yet again won another prestigious award, the Daily Telegraph's Ultratravel Award for Best Holiday Destination Worldwide.



The ULTRAs (Ultimate Luxury Travel Related Awards), celebrating the best in luxury travel across the globe, were announced at a ceremony held at InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel on 9th of May 2007.

Ultratravel magazine, published with the Daily Telegraph, was first launched in autumn 2004 and has a circulation of 500,000 readers.

The ULTRA awards were selected based on votes casted by the readers of the UltraTravel magazine over a period of more than 12 months. The ULTRAs consisted, in addition to best holiday destination, the best in airline, airport, tour operator, cruise company, spa, ski resort and hotel.

To win this award Maldives competed with popular destinations such as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Thailand.
